Projects

EnvironmentPlus International is very active both here in the United Kingdom as well as through international partnerships  helping to be at the forefront of research,  providing education, training, knowledge and best practice. We receive funding from our Quality Mark members, and from other funders including Government Departments. We also provide funding to key projects which help us to meet our strategic objectives.

News:  February 2021 – 2026  – Saving our BEES!!

The BumbleBee Alliance, a United Kingdom based non-profit organisation, is now receiving funding from the Quality Mark for Bee related research and community focussed education programmes in local communities in the United Kingdom, Azores Islands and Canada. The funding will help us to understand more about BumbleBee populations in various countries linked to the use of pesticide and insecticide use. Read more in the next edition of our Newsletter.

Atlantic Ocean Plastic


The Atlantic Ocean Plastic research programme is being carried out between 2021-2026 based in the Azores Islands Archipelago – Mid Atlantic, we will be researching the amount of plastics found in specific locations in the Azores over a period of years. When possible we will identify the original location of plastics carried by the ocean currents (such as Northern European, North American countries) due to wrappings, and other identifiers. This can then help the greater scientific knowledge of this pollutant which affects fish and the greater food chain in this very isolated location. We have a dedicated team of Doctoral level experts and volunteers assisting with this programme.

Ocean Blue Project

The Ocean Blue project was a heritage project inspired and developed by children and young people working with EnvironmentPlus International CIC living in the rural coastal area of Kent, situated hundreds of metres above the White Cliffs of Dover, overlooking the English channel at its narrowest point between the UK with the French coast, which is clearly visible in the distance. The area in which these young people live stretches about seven miles in length between Dover and Capel le Ferne and inland towards Hawkinge with the English Channel being omni present in their lives. The young people realised that they saw and were aware of the existence of the world famous cliffs and English Channel but they knew very little in relation to the heritage, particularly little knowledge about habitats, plant and animal life, biodiversity and ecosystems. EnvironmentPlus International CIC supported by the local fishing Cooperative – Folkestone Trawlers, working with local schools and Kent County Council over a two year period helped young people to understand key endangered and at risk species , to identify varieties of fish, crustaceans, sponges etc; and to know all about chalk reefs and biodiversity in the area.

Community Programmes

The ethos of EnvironmentPlus International CIC is to offer meaningful and informal social learning linked to the natural environment. This focusses on strengths and informal social learning, to develop individuals and build their self confidence. This helps them to progress to other social or accredited programmes to help meet their personal employment aspirations. Thank you to funding and support from Anglia Ruskin University / Ixion, and Computer Gym we have been able to offer community based programmes for vulnerable groups in Kent. EnvironmentPlus International CIC has worked with three main groups on this programme:

  1. Older People with limited educational background (the majority with disabilities) often living in isolated locations
  2. Younger people who have acute learning and / or physical disabilities (eg; Autism / Aspergers)
  3. Young people who have offended or are at risk of offending

Sustainable Skills  – For Employment

EnvironmentPlus International has successfully received funding from the UK Government – Department for Work and Pensions to offer a set of comprehensive 3 month programmes of training for long term unemployed people to help them improve skills for employment. This training is focussed on meeting the United Kingdom Government’s – Green Jobs objectives. EnvironmentPlus International now offers an adaptation of this course online through a learning portal accessed from our website.

YETI  – Youth Environmental Training Initiative – Erasmus KA2 Youth Strand

EnvironmentPlus International has received funding from the European Union – Erasmus programme to offer environmental training to young people within the community in partnership with partner organisations and communities in Hungary and Malta. The project objectives helped us to create an auditing tool developed in partnership with youth groups and schools. The project also permitted us to experience best practice in each country, and we also experienced different cultures, languages and food as part of the overall experience
